After-School Care

After-School Care Program

The St. Francis of Assisi After-School Care Program provides the children of working parents with a safe and healthy environment in which they may pursue play, academic or other pursuits in the afternoon hours afterschool. The program is focused upon providing a loving and positive environment in which the children's needs for physical, emotional, and spiritual safety are well met. As members of the AfterCare family, each student's sense of belonging to both the human and Christian communities is reinforced and explored during daily activities and interactions with peers and staff. Consistent adult role modeling and supervision, activities which are appropriate to the children's intellectual and recreational needs, and ample time for self-expression during free-play, structured activities and art will insure that each student is provided an environment in which each child feels comfortable to play, learn and grow.

Each child's progress is gently and carefully guided by staff members who are well-trained and sincerely dedicated to the well-being of the children. All interactions, social and otherwise, are guided by the simple principles set forth in the PeaceBuilders® Program, which is itself, as practiced at St. Francis of Assisi, firmly grounded in the message of the New Testament.

The AfterCare Program is fully insured and licensed through the State of Kentucky. Care is provided on all days during which school was in session. There is no care when school has not been in session. The program is also extended into the summer. Information on the SummerCare Program at St. Francis is available by contacting the director or school office.

SummerCare Program®

The SummerCare program is an exciting and unique way for your child to experience summer fun! St. Francis of Assisi School has been providing students with the opportunity to experience summer adventures for nearly two decades. Since its inception, the program has had at its center a firm sense of its mission; providing students with an abundance of opportunities for summer fun and adventure within a Christian environment which clearly safeguards their physical emotional and physical safety.

The program offers a wonderful mix of structured fun and adventures delivered within framework which also provides ample time for free play and self-direction. The program is 'low-key' and best suits younger students who prefer a mixture of guided and self-directed activities. Students will engage in daily activities including; games, physical challenges, sports, arts or crafts, chess and reading. There is also ample time to ride bikes (brought from home) or to just kick back with a favorite board game or book. Twice a week, the students will leave for a local field trip destination. Swimming, museums, movies, and restraunts have been destinations of fun in the past. Transportation is by certified and insured school bus.

Staffing includes teachers, Bellarmine nursing students, teaching assistants and past St. Francis of Assisi graduates who all return because they love children and summer.

Registration for students who do not attend St. Francis begins in mid-April after the St. Francis of Assisi students have registered. Preference is first given to students who will attend on a full-time basis, although there is often room for students who wish to attend on a daily or drop-in basis. Students new to St. Francis will attend on a trial basis until it can determined with certitude that the program best suits them. Registration is by contract and commits each family financially to payment for the dates for which they have signed up. Space is always very limited.
