Educational Support

St. Francis of Assisi School offers Educational Support for students with learning issues as well as enrichment needs. SFA has a Learning Consultant on staff who works closely with teachers, parents and students to develop the best learning environment for every student.

The following programs are in place to address learning needs in the classroom:

Fast ForWord® Reading Lab

Students have the opportunity to work with in the Fast ForWord® Lab during the school year. Based on over 30 years of brain research, the Fast ForWord® products help students boost reading and language skills, leading to improved learner performance. Fast ForWord® is a computer-based product that accelerates learning by developing cognitive skills, memory, attention processing and sequencing.

Earobics Reading Lab

SFA students also have an Earobics Reading Lab available for their use. Earobics is an award-winning educational software which systematically teaches the critical foundational skills for reading and spelling. Earobics teaches phonological awareness, auditory processing and introductory phonics skills necessary to learn to read and spell.

Volunteer Program

On any visit to our school, you will find volunteers working with students on an individual basis and in small groups to support our program. Volunteers our especially in force during our Literacy Blocks.

We also have tutors who volunteer their time after school as needed.

Enrichment Opportunities

St. Francis of Assisi participates in the following enrichment activities:

  • John Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth — identifies top academic students in Grades two through eight. Students who score at or above the 95th percentile on standardized tests are invited to participate in CTY's Talent Search.
  • Duke University Talent Identification Program — offers a 4th/5th Grade Talent Search and a 7th Grade Talent Search. The 4th/5th Grade Talent Search gives students the opportunity to take the EXPLORE test for eighth graders; while the seventh graders get to experience the ACT or SAT college entrance exam.
