The Arts at St. Francis
Named for a twelfth century singer/songwriter who inspired some of history's greatest artists through the centuries, it seems natural that the arts would find a home at St. Francis. From the work of local painters and sculptors that adorn our grounds to the sounds of internationally renowned singer/songwriters, we continually seek God in the outpouring of the creative spirit.
Visual Arts
While much of the art at St. Francis was originally done in other cities, or brought from Europe, more recently our community has been seeking the work of local artists, both for permanent pieces like the bronze statue of St. Francis with the Animals, and for seasonal works like fabric hangings and vestments that are produced by local painters and artisans.
We also host occasional exhibits of the work of local and regional artists, as well as screenings by regional filmmakers.
Music
While some members of our Worship team are professional musicians in their own right (claiming numerous jazz albums, performances with international chorales and regional progressive rock bands among their accomplishments) St. Francis also welcomes performances by musicians from around the world. 2009 concerts will include: Bluegrass Legend Ralph Stanley, the first-ever Louisville performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion by the Louisville Choral Arts Society, upcoming Americana artist Justin Townes Earle, and The Minus Five, featuring Peter Buck of the slightly more widely known band REM.
